You can launch your own kayaks in the Little Manatee river state park but there is a fee to enter the park. The Canoe Outpost is a concession that rents kayaks, so they are not going to let you bring your own kayaks. The appeal for using them is that they will pick you up so you don't have to paddle back upriver.
Hi. We are looking to kayak the Little Manatee this weekend, and use your location for put in. While kayaking the Little Manatee, do people get out and swim in the river to cool off? Or is it like the Hillsborough River, where due to the number of gators, no one gets out to swim! Thanks for your honest opinion. We kayak a lot throughout the state, so are used to gators in the river, but since it is so hot right now, we are looking to go to a river where we can jump in and swim also.

The Little Manatee River is a natural habitat and does have alligators and other wildlife. Although we have fewer gators than some other local rivers, river swimming in Florida always involves risk and you should use great caution. Depending on the river level when you paddle, sections of the river can have many shallow areas, sand bars and relatively clear water and many folks choose to swim and play in the water. Further downstream, the local folks have a rope swing that many folks choose to use. Higher river levels with darker water and swifter current add challenges for folks wishing to swim so I suggest that you call for a river conditions report before planning your trip. Brian R. Owner.
