My husband wanted to go to this museum and we were very impressed. Interesting for all ages and full of fun facts. Great location if you’re in Auckland. We highly recommend.Full review by Anne K

This museum is generally well laid out and mostly presented in time order. It seems to have a range of full-size and miniature models of various sailing vessels from the first arrivals. There is a …Full review by Paradise57278784459

2 weeks and two islands is a lot to cover. You need to be selective on what and where you go, especially with kids in tow. We elected not to do the Bay of Islands and started in Auckland. The maritime Murseum was great and pay for the hour long harbour sail. It was worth it. There are some great on/off bus tours of Auckland. I would choose those. There are additional fees for the attractions. Rotoarau is a must see. Same with Hobbiton - if you a fan of Lord if the Rings. There is a great tour of Rotarau that takes you to a wild life preserve the thermal gizsors and a sheep farm. Also in Rotarau there is a Maori tribe that offers dinner and some really great interpreter lead activities. We also enjoyed the watomo glow worm caves. We did not get to the west coast of the north island. Too much for us. South Island I would focus on Milford Sound Frank Joseph Glacier, Queenstown and Dunedin. We missed Tasman national park- and I wish we had more time. Lots to see and do. I would also recommend hitting Omarau if you are into Steam Punk. Awesome sights for the kids. Don’t miss the playgrounds in Wellington Omarau and Christchurch (Maragert Mayhe right downtown). Kiwis do the most amazing playgrounds! Give yourself time in the drive it takes a lot longer than you think. There are lots of pull outs to see Some amazing sites. If you are not married to seeing both islands perhaps consider just one island. There is alit to see and don in just one!!!
Looking at your website, I can see your admission prices, but I cannot find a mechanism that allows me to advance purchase tickets online. Can that be done, or do you prefer people to just walk in? We are 4 adults from outside the Auckland region.

Hi Mike, apologies for the delay in our response, we didn't get a notification about this question. At present we don't take online bookings system for general entry for the public, just for harbour sailings as they can sell out. General admission tickets are always available at the front desk up until 4pm each day which is the last entry time for the museum.
We intend to visit the Maritime Museum on the 5th of March. How Can I set my GPS to access the museum? Thank you very much. Can I have any advice for my visit?

I do not think you need your GPS to find it. It is well signed and close to the city and would be a short stroll there should you be staying in the city. I agree it is right on the waterfront where the cruise ships dock. We were on a cruise and our visit was part of a tour we booked on the cruise. I suggest that if you visit the museum make sure you include a sail on the harbour on their flat bottomed yacht it is very enjoyable and you get to see things around the harbour that you would not see just walking or driving around. You will enjoy your time in Auckland.
