Was just visiting from Idaho and it was overcast but still beautiful. I would think it is nice in September, but a ranger told us October was beautiful. Check out state parks and side streets. We are Geocacher’s and found some amazing places off the beaten path.

There are several walks along the coast. Actually I think the one in Fort Bragg is nicer than the one in Mendocino. Also, the private garden walk in Fort Bragg is worth the admission price.
