Utterly gorgeous, magical and mind-blowing. I went back the next day to grab the free tour that was provided and could not believe how shallow those stones are actually embedded into the ground and w… Full review by SLVRR

We visited this site after the Stones of Stenness and the Barnhouse Settlement, both a short distance away. There is no parking at the Ring of Brodgar site entrance, although a specific vehicle park … Full review by Chris M

The size is awesome. The cost is free. It is a must see. You need about 30 mins to park, walk and wonder. Good information boards. Full review by Adam B

Yes. I think so. We were there by ourselves, but on several of the sites there were local guides stationed that would talk about the site. Some places had regular tour guides that you needed to be with to get in. Some were self guiding with a lot of information signs, and a few smaller sites were just there with no guide and no posted information. A guide book was useful. I think that there are tours from Kirkwall.
Q:
How do I get there by car?
A:
Well signposted from Kirkwall and Stromness and a car park nearby

HI, we are scheduled to visit the Ring and the Standing Stones of Stenness on a cruise tour the end of August. Our cruise company has notified us we can not get out of the bus to photograph the stones. Is that true for both sites or just the Standing Stones o Stenness? Thank you.

Would have thought this is likely to be down to the discretion of your cruise company and their schedule/rules? It may be best to ask them. When we drove ourselves there we went to both sets of stones in September 2017 and were able to walk around the Ring of Brodgar; through and around Stenness and take photographs at both sites.

I can answer this partly. The area is open all around as there are no hills nearby to block the wind and yet the times we have been there it was not windy at all. Which I find odd. The sites may develop up drafts from heat that effectively block the wind, but that may only be temporary during the day. Of course having some wind would be nice to keep the Wee Midges away at night. Although I don't remember having swarms of Midges, which is the only way they come, on the calm days we visited. As far as camping I am unaware of campsites although it would not surprise me, but we don't camp. Good Luck and have fun on Orkney.
