Anthropic says it is teaching its Claude AI model to perform general computing tasks based on prompts. In demonstration videos, the model is shown controlling the cursor of a computer to conduct research for an outing on the town, searching the web for places to visit near the user’s home and even adding an itinerary to their desktop calendar.

Anthropic, the artificial intelligence startup founded by a team of former OpenAI employees, has revealed Claude 3.5 Haiku. It is a new AI model capable of replicating the performance of its largest system, but with the cost and speed of its smallest. The company also revealed a new version of its mid-sized model, Claude 3.5 Sonnet.

The move represents a small step toward a future where AIs don’t just generate content but control other systems and devices.
