New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman officially announced the fate of a key part of the starting rotation to begin the season. When speaking with reporters Saturday in Tampa, Cashman announced that right-handed starter Clarke Schmidt will begin the regular season on the injured list due to shoulder fatigue that he's been dealing with over the last two weeks at spring training.

Friday was another good day for Yankees right-hander Clarke Schmidt, who woke up with no back soreness the day after his two-inning, 32-pitch live batting practice. His hope is that he’s over his back issues, which popped up at the start of spring training and again this week.
