The extender will add less range than promised for the dual-motor version of the truck. It will also be available later than expected.

The Cybertruck's range extender, which will essentially be an extra battery pack that'll sit inside the truck's bed and take up a third of its available space, won't be cheap. Tesla is currently advertising it on its website at a whopping $16,000, with a $2,000 down payment.

In the third quarter, Tesla sold 16,692 Cybertrucks in the U.S., giving it almost 50% market share of EV trucks. That’s despite an average transaction price north of $115,000 a truck.

Tesla has further delayed production of Cybertruck’s range extender and reduced the range that it will add to the
