Following two problematic tests of Ethereum's upcoming Pectra upgrade, the network's core developers decided on Thursday to create a new testnet to demonstrate the code update a final time before deployment.

Ethereum [ETH] core devs have pushed the Pectra upgrade on the mainnet to April/May, depending on its performance on the proposed third testnet – Hoodi.

Ethereum core developers have decided to create a third testnet, Hoodi, to better prepare for the Pectra upgrade, which has now been delayed until at least late April after the first two testnets encountered several bugs.

Ethereum’s biggest upgrade since The Merge is entering a new phase of testing, Pectra could hit mainnet as early as April 25.

Ethereum developers announced on Thursday that they will launch a new testnet, "Hoodi," to enable validators and infrastructure providers to adequately test the upcoming Pectra upgrade before mainnet deployment, according to Tim Beiko, who runs Ethereum's core protocol meetings.

Ethereum’s highly anticipated Pectra upgrade was successfully deployed on its final testnet, Sepolia, marking a major milestone in the lead-up to the mainnet activation. However, potential delays remain as developers continue to address outstanding issues from a previous testnet failure.
