A native of Aledo, Texas, Hejny participated in the Elite 11 Finals and was invited to the 2024 All-American Bowl. He led Aledo, a Lone Star State power, to consecutive state championships as a junior and senior. He passed for close to 2,800 yards and 27 touchdowns as a senior while adding 1,041 yards rushing.

There were the highs, like getting on the field in four games this season and quickly learning a new offense under Sonny Dykes and Kendal Briles.
