A fast-moving wildfire exploded to more than 3,000 acres near the Los Angeles County community of Castaic Wednesday morning, prompting mandatory evacuation orders and road closures, authorities said.

Fire crews are battling a swiftly growing blaze dubbed the Hughes Fire burning near Interstate 5 in Castaic, in the northern part of Los Angeles County.

Palisades Fire initially started 10:30 a.m. Jan. 7 in Los Angeles County. It has burned 23,448 acres after being active for 15 days. A crew of 4,335 firefighters has been working on site and they managed to contain 68% of the fire by Wednesday morning. The blaze's cause remains under investigation.

A new wildfire was reported today at 11:44 a.m. in Los Angeles County. The wildfire has been burning on private land. Currently, there is no information on the containment of the fire and the cause of it has yet to be determined.

A fast-growing brush fire forced evacuation orders in the Los Angeles County community of Castaic on Wednesday, officials said. The blaze, which officials named the Hughes Fire, was first reported shortly after 10:30 a.m. along Lake Hughes Road, near Castaic Lake and the 5 Freeway, according to Cal Fire.

Forecasters warn that dangerous winds will buffet Southern California for at least two more days as new wildfires broke out and a pair of major Los Angeles-area blazes burned for a third week.
