Mayor Eric Adams announced a new plan Wednesday to help address the issue of of homeless people with mental illness​.

Mayor Eric Adams swiped back at critics of his newly-announced $650 million plan to tackle mental illness and homelessness saying “adults come up with real solutions.”

The five-year investment will bring the New York City Department of Homeless Services (DHS) street programming budget to over $350 million in FY25 and $400 million once fully implemented, which will represent the largest annual allotment for sheltering homeless individuals in city history.

Former Gov. Andrew Cuomo came out as the favorite to defeat Adams in November, according to the poll commissioned by Progressives for Democracy in America. When asked about the poll Monday, Adams was monumentally unmoved.
