Coast Guard rescues two boaters near San Juan Islands; 1 dies
U.S. Coast Guard rescued two boaters from a disabled 31-foot sailboat near the San Juan Islands Monday night, the agency said in a news release. A 56-year-old man was rescued, while a woman died after Coast Guard crews found her unconscious.
San Juan County in Washington State didn't have the funds to give workers a raise, so they had to get creative.
At the time, seas were 4-6 feet high and winds were gusting between 25 and 30 mph. National Weather Service data showed temperatures around 30 degrees with snowy conditions for much of the evening.
