Just more than a week before Sundance 2025 kicks off, the resort town has made the long-desired decision to make Park City ‘s often-congested Main Street car-free for the duration of the festival, which runs January 23-Feburary 2.

Park City’s Main Street will be closed to cars during the 2025 Sundance Film Festival. It’s the first road closing of this kind in the event’s history.

While the festival continues as expected, devastation remains in LA County. The National Weather Service put portions of LA County under a “particularly dangerous situation” warning through Wednesday morning as high winds with gusts up to 72 mph threaten rapid spreading of the fire, per the Los Angeles Times.

Park City on Wednesday said it will close Main Street to traffic during the Sundance Film Festival in an effort to increase safety in the weeks after the mass killing in New Orleans by a truck driver.

The 2025 Sundance Film Festival Jury is divided into six sections: U.S. dramatic, U.S. documentary, world cinema dramatic, world cinema documentary, short film program and Alfred P. Sloan feature film prize. In total, 16 jurors will be presiding over the festival to grant awards at the festival.

Park City Film regularly showcases films at the Park City Library’s Jim Santy Auditorium. During Sundance, however, the auditorium is used to screen festival films. Park City Film Executive Director Katy Wang said the changeover is pretty seamless.
