Air Wisconsin Airlines is laying off more than 500 workers, impacting two of the state's largest airports - General International Airport in Milwaukee and Appleton International Airport.

Among the 513 affected employees in both Appleton and Milwaukee, 294 union workers will be temporarily laid off.

According to its letter to the state, it is likely the company's plan will involve some level of company-wide workforce reductions.

Citing a “strategic shift in its operations,” officials with Air Wisconsin say they may soon be cutting over 500 total employees including over 280 employees in Appleton. According to a letter obtained by the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development from Air Wisconsin Airlines LLC,

Air Wisconsin Airlines has announced hundreds of layoffs from their Appleton and Milwaukee bases of operation. It comes after they announced they would no longer be flying for American Airlines.
