CHARLEVOIX, MI – A new Beaver Island passenger ferry is expected to be built in the next three to five years after the state of Michigan budgeted $14 million for the vessel, officials said.

Two ferries currently service Beaver Island, one of which is more than 60 years old. The money will go toward the purchase of a new environmentally friendly ferry and toward dock renovations.
