The forgotten magic of CCD sensors: Why I won’t give them up! - MSNThe reality is that CCD sensors have all but disappeared from mainstream digital cameras. They are power-hungry, expensive to manufacture, and lack the speed that modern photographers demand.
After putting in a new monochrome CCD, [Lasse] had a much more sensitive sensor in his camera, and processing the RAW files off the camera gives him a great improvement for his astrophotography.
So in a display there are red, green, and blue sub-pixels, though in a CCD or even CMOS imaging sensors, the Bayer filter filters the light for the whole pixel. Those sensors don’t have sub-pixels.
