Greek mythology stories are full of this kind of behavior. As a result, when the twin boys were born nine months later, Castor was 100% mortal, and Pollux was born a half-god.

Castor and Pollux are named for twin demigods in Ancient Greek mythology. Born to Spartan queen Leda, the pair had different fathers: Zeus and Spartan king Tyndareus.

If you look at the crescent moon this evening (May 26) you’ll notice two bright stars to its right. They’re Castor and Pollux the mythical Greek twins.

It’s interesting to note that Pollux is 34 light-years from the Earth, and Castor is 51 light-years away. That means the two “heads” of Gemini the Twins are 17 light-years apart.
