The Lightning and Amalie Arena have about 200 full-time employees, and many hundreds more part-time employees who work behind the scenes. Only a handful were around to walk up to the edge of the rink.

Thursday started early for the ice operations crew at AMALIE Arena as they put a final stamp—or melt—on the 2024-25 NHL season by removing the ice surface for the summer.

Amalie Arena ice stays well, icy, largely thanks to the underground ice plant, which consists of 10 miles of piping that pumps glycol at 15-18 degrees underneath the ice.
