A developer who worked on 2009's Punch-Out game for the Wii has reportedly claimed that the series is unlikely to return due to the "significant" backlash to its stereotypical characters.

Wii’s Punch-Out premieres a two-player split-screen mode, with two players fighting each other as Little Mac and his color-swapped model. The game was released seven years after the NES original.
