The latest Emerson College/Inside California Politics survey put Schiff in first place at 25%, with 18% for Garvey, 13% for Porter and 8% for Lee. Garvey said he had talked to people around the state.

Garvey is a career .294 hitter with 272 home runs and 1,308 runs batted in over 19 seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres in the 1970s and 1980s.
