After nearly three decades of playing in Maryland, the Washington Commanders are headed back to the District of Columbia to build a new home at the site of RFK Stadium, where the club played until the mid-1990s.

The deal would cost $856 million, Chairman Phil Mendelson (D) said, adding he feared taxpayers could ultimately spend north of $1 billion.
