Health officials said the risk of exposure to measles remains low in the Bay Area. The safest way to fight it is to take a measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccination shot if you’re under 3 years old and to get two of them if you’re older than 3.

The health departments from all Bay Area counties urged people to get vaccinated against measles because of rising cases across the country.

Bay Area health leaders are encouraging everyone to check if they got the measles vaccine or to visit their doctor and receive the shot if they are unsure. The recommendations comes after the United States has seen a sharp rise in measles cases with 320 cases across the country as of Friday morning.

Rain pelted the Bay Area again Friday morning as the most intense part of the second wave in a storm pattern whipped its way onto shore accompanied by cold, gusty winds similar to those that blew during the first round.

The second wave of the storm brought with it more heavy winds. Gusts as high as 45 mph blew in areas of Alameda, Contra Costa, Santa Clara, San Mateo and Santa Cruz counties, and a wind advisory

Some of the highest peaks of the Bay Area are getting snow Friday morning and Lake County up north could receive up to five inches!

The Bay Area's windy, rainy conditions mixed with frigid air in a few high-elevation areas to produce a noticeable, if thin, blanket of snow over the past couple of days.
