Parents who have lost children to hazing, including some local families, have long called for federal lawmakers to close gaps in the patchwork system.

President Biden celebrated the holidays with a bill-signing blitz on Christmas Eve. The 50 measures becoming law include the "Stop Institutional Child Abuse Act," championed by Paris Hilton, the "Stop Campus Hazing Act" and a law prohibiting Congress members from receiving retirement payments if they are convicted of certain crimes.
