Ford has introduced a fully electric NASCAR prototype inspired by the Mustang Mach-E. The model features a tri-motor powertrain and several parts from the current NASCAR racer. Ford Performance has also published a teaser of an upcoming Mach-E Pikes Peak racer.

The automaker confirmed Thursday in a press release that it would send a new one-off demonstrator based on the Mustang Mach-E to the 2025 Pikes Peak Hill Climb, scheduled for late June. It follows EV demonstrators based on the F-150 Lightning pickup truck and Transit van that ran in 2024 and 2023, respectively.

While Ford has yet to release details of the Mach-E NASCAR, it will likely share similar characteristics of the NASCAR EV that was demonstrated in Chicago. The EV accelerated twice as fast as gas-powered NASCARs but suffered in corners due to its extra battery weight.

The most powerful Mustang Mach-E you can buy today is the GT model. It has a dual-motor powertrain and standard all-wheel drive, a setup that’s rated at a stout 480 horsepower and up to 700 pound-feet of torque with the optional performance upgrade.

Ford has modified a Mustang Mach-E for Pikes Peak, but that is wrong headed, and that Ford should have instead used a more classic Mustang design for this race which would have benefited the lagging sales of more traditionally designed Mustangs.

When speaking to the Detroit Free Press, Ford Police Brand Marketing Manager Lindsey Bertino said the company first launched the Mustang Mach-E Police Pilot program back as a 2022 model year program, with the vehicle's performance being tested in the MSP's Police Vehicle Evaluation.
