Walter White came awfully close to never calling Saul. But according to Breaking Bad producer and Better Call Saul co-creator Peter Gould, the character almost never made it onto the screen.

The character, and Odenkirk’s performance, proved immediately popular among fans and critics, and Odenkirk would go on to reprise the role in the highly acclaimed spin-off, Better Call Saul.

He even entertained a question about the television series, Better Call Saul. The following has been condensed and edited for clarity. Let’s get to some of your biographical information first.

He landed a job as a writer on “The X-Files” before going on to create “Breaking Bad” and its prequel spinoff, “Better Call Saul.” The success of both turned Gilligan into a star writer.
