A long-awaited system bringing snow and wintry precipitation will begin in North Texas tonight, creating potentially dangerous conditions for drivers on the roads in the region. Freezing drizzle is expected to begin falling in Amarillo and surrounding cities around 6 p.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for parts of North Texas through Thursday morning, including all four metro counties.

Wintry precipitation is expected to arrive in the Texas Panhandle starting Monday night, and forecasters anticipate snowfall for parts of the region. The National Weather Service said Monday there's a 50 percent chance that at least two inches of snow will blanket the upper reaches of the state.

Waves of rain will persist through early Tuesday morning, with temperatures remaining on the chilly side. A stronger front is expected to arrive Wednesday night, followed by a couple of morning freezes.
