Jets' owner Woody Johnson, who was instrumental in bringing Rodgers in to town before a long history of feuding with the self-proclaimed "enigma" claims he wasn't behind the decision to led Rodgers become a free agent. Johnson said it was new head coach Aaron Glenn and new general manager Darren Mougey who decided to go a different direction.

“The experiment was a good experiment, to bring him in, but it just didn't work out, as you can see," Johnson said, per ESPN's Rich Cimini. "I have a lot of respect for Aaron Rodgers. He is a great player, a Hall of Famer player. I'm sorry it didn't work out.”

The Jets are making a concerted effort to turn down the volume now that Aaron Rodgers is gone, coach Aaron Glenn says.

The Jets have tried various styles of head coach — the players’ coach (Robert Saleh), the offensive innovator (Adam Gase), the defensive stalwart (Todd Bowles), the rah-rah disciplinarian (Rex Ryan). Glenn is all of that and he is none of that. He’s a builder. And his plan is to fix the Jets by building brick by brick.

This has not been the average offseason for the New York Jets. A team coming off another remarkably disappointing season, which is desperate to end a 15-year playoff drought, has not been linked to every big-name free agent nor is flaunting overly-cocky promises of things finally turning around.
