Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum accused Google on Monday of violating the country’s sovereignty, leaving open the possibility of a lawsuit over the tech company labeling the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America in its maps feature.

However, Google Maps said it would update its maps so that people in America would see the Gulf of America. People in Mexico will still see the Gulf of Mexico, the name the body of water has had for 400 years. For people in the rest of the world, Google Maps will display both names.

Mexico will take Google to court if it insists on changing the Gulf of Mexico's name to "Gulf of America" for Maps.
