The UK is set for another day of sweltering conditions, with temperatures due to hit 35C as an amber heat health alert has been extended across the country.

A brutal heat wave across the eastern United States trapped millions of people in sweltering air this week with record-high temperatures.

Blazing temperatures scorched several states on Tuesday, as about 80,000 residents faced power outages.

"Dangerous heat will intensify across much of the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic early this week," meteorologist Jacob Hinson said.
