Danforth died unexpectedly Sunday at the age of 78.

Danforth served two, non-consecutive terms as tribal chair in 1999 and 2005, retiring from that office in 2008. He also served as a judicial officer for the Oneida Appeals Commission for four years.

The design plan includes a Tribal Flag Plaza, located in the Lower Capitol Mall. The plaza will feature flags from each of the 11 federally recognized tribes in the state.

The Veterans Administration removed the flags from the Phoenix hospital in March and left them at the Salt River tribal offices near Scottsdale.

Gov. Katie Hobbs announced on Tuesday she has relocated the 22 Tribal flags removed from the Carl T. Hayden VA Medical Center in Phoenix.

Days after the Phoenix VA removed flags representing Arizona's 22 tribal nations to comply with federal policy, they are now displayed at the Governor's Office.

The governor's office said it had accepted the 22 flags, which were left with the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community near Scottsdale.
