RIO DE JANEIRO (Reuters) - An agreement establishing the total amount miners Vale, BHP and their joint venture Samarco must pay to compensate damages associated with the collapse of the Mariana dam is expected to be signed on Oct. 25, sources told Reuters on Friday.

Miners Vale and BHP are discussing a near $30 billion compensation agreement with Brazilian authorities related to the 2015 Mariana dam collapse, they said on Friday, with a deal set to be signed on Oct.

As of Friday, the negotiations between the parties were ongoing and no final agreement has been reached on the settlement amount or terms.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Friday his possible attendance at next month's summit of the Group of 20 leading economies in Brazil would disrupt the important work there, adding that somebody else would represent Moscow there.
