GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - Former ECU Head Football Coach Mike Houston is bidding farewell to Pirate Nation. Houston was fired by ECU this past Sunday following the Pirates' loss to Army.

As Mike Houston exits the ECU football program, Defensive Coordinator Blake Harrell slides up to be the team’s Interim Head Coach. Harrell will be coaching his first game as the head boss Saturday when the Pirates welcome Temple to town.

Jacksonville Jaguars running backs coach Jerry Mack is another former college head coach who might be in play. Mack, 43, spent the previous three seasons at Tennessee, where he helped Josh Heupel lead that a program out of a messy stretch. Before that, Mack went 31-15 at FCS program North Carolina Central, including a 26-6 run in MEAC play.
