Elise Stefanik’s nomination to be U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, a stunning turnaround for his Cabinet pick after her confirmation had been stalled for months over concerns about Republicans’ tight margins in the House.

Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN) urged Republicans to pass a law defunding PBS and NPR because he feared Democrats would soon take back control of the U.S. House of Representatives after the 2026 midterm elections.

Holding the majority means Democrats can keep House Speaker Joanna McClinton of Philadelphia as the chamber’s presiding officer.

Democrat Dan Goughnour is the winner of a special election in western Pennsylvania, keeping majority control of the state House in his party’s hands.
