Isro is working on enhancing the precision of its automated satellite docking. After a successful initial docking on January 16, the agency plans additional docking attempts, focusing on shorter separations and fuel-efficient maneuvers.

ISRO has successfully docked satellites, making India the fourth country to achieve this feat. This technology is crucial for future missions like Chandrayaan-4 and Gaganyaan.

In a major boost to India's ambitious future space missions, ISRO on Thursday successfully performed the docking of satellites as part of the Space Docking Experiment (SpaDeX) and announced that post docking, control of two satellites as a single object was also achieved.

Dr Somanath said, “We have to work on making our own space docking system. If you want to go and dock with the ISS, you need a standard docking system."

India has finally joined the elite list of countries to have successfully docked two spacecrafts in orbit. On Thursday, ISRO announced that the docking of two SPADEX satellites has been successful.

ISRO carried out a trial attempt by bringing both the Chaser and Target satellites three metres closer to each other. Afterwards, the satellites were moved apart to safer distances. The space agency is analysing the data for successfully carrying out docking soon.

Docking technology plays a vital role in space when multiple rocket launches are needed to achieve common mission objectives.
