Meta says it has laid off some employees, including staff at WhatsApp And Instagram, to realign its resources with its “strategic goals.”

Meta is laying off employees across units including Instagram, WhatsApp and Reality Labs, the Verge reported on Wednesday, citing people familiar with the matter. A Meta spokesperson told Reuters in a statement that a few of its teams were making changes to align with their long-term strategic goals and location strategy.

One of them is software engineer Jane Manchun Wong, who shared the performance and functionalities of social apps before joining Meta in 2023. Wong informed her followers about the impact of layoffs by sharing her situation on Threads, which is an expression of personal anguish.
