The discovery of a 2000-year-old headless statue from the Hellenistic period has prompted Greek police to investigate.

A statue dating more than 2,000 years was allegedly found in a black bag near garbage bins in a part of the Greek city of Thessaloniki.

A marble statue of a woman, believed to be more than 2,000 years old, was found abandoned in a garbage bag near the Greek city of Thessaloniki, police said Wednesday.

According to The Associated Press and a statement from Greek police, a man in Neoi Epivates near the city of Thessaloniki found an approximately 31-inch headless marble statue of a woman in a trash bag next to a garbage can. He turned it over to the authorities, who then passed it on to archaeologists to further examine the object.
