Senate Joint Resolution 1, or "Jocelyn's Law," would keep people without authority to be in the U.S. who are charged with felonies in jail until trial

According to the Texas Tribune, Senate Joint Resolution 5, which passed 28-2, would amend the Texas Constitution to allow judges to deny bail to defendants accused of murder, aggravated kidnapping, robbery or assault with a weapon.

The package was fast-tracked after Gov. Greg Abbott declared “bail reform” an emergency item. The bills now head to the House for consideration.

It is the third time the Texas Senate has passed bail reform bills. The bills died in the House the previous times.
