Panda fan culture once flourished in China. But Beijing is tightening control of discussion of a national symbol.

Even with a new administration only a few days old, Washington's newest stars from China stole the spotlight on Friday when a pair of three-year-old giant pandas made their public debut at the National Zoo.

Giant pandas Bao Li and Qing Bao made their debut at the National Zoo in Washington, D.C. on Friday (January 24), to the delight of visitors. "I just love how, like roly-poly and pudgy they are," said visitor Rhys Price.
