One of the last remaining Navajo Code Talkers who transmitted messages during World War II using the tribe's native language has died. John Kinsel Sr. was 107.

Mr. Kinsel, who served from October 1942 to January 1946, was part of the second group of Marines trained as code talkers at Camp Elliott, Calif., after the original 29 who developed the code for wartime use.

John Kinsel Sr, one of the last remaining Navajo code talkers who transmitted messages during the Second World War based on the tribe’s native American language, has died at the age of 107. Navajo Nation officials in Window Rock, Arizona, announced his death on Saturday.
