Jan 7, 2009 · BustedKnuckles has the right idea. I would only add that you can disable the AAP system by pinching off or jamming something into the vacuum hose that goes to the AAP housing. I found my 79 truck with the 20R engine started and ran just fine with this modfication.

Aug 4, 2008 · texases says what I would say, and adds a helpful link. The contacts and disc/rod (AKA plunger) are a common problem. My 79 Toyota and 99 Plymouth had this problem - both with the same brand of starter. Filing clean the contacts and plunger disc took care of it on both.

I gave it to the local junkyard owner who bolted a piece of lumber between the bed and the cab and used it for a “yard truck”.
