Gunatitanand Swami (28 September 1784 – 11 October 1867), born Mulji Jani, was a prominent paramhansa of the Swaminarayan Sampradaya who was ordained by Swaminarayan [1] [2]: 22 [3]: 16 [4]: 123 and is accepted as the first spiritual successor of Swaminarayan by the Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS).

After Bhagwan Swaminarayan passed away, Gunatitanand Swami continued to spread His philosophy and to lead devotees to spiritually pure lifestyles. Although Gunatitanand Swami was the mahant of a large mandir, he constantly put himself at the service of others.

Swami Gunatitanand succeeded in bringing about such transformation en masse. He turned hardened sinners into humble devotees of God. They, too, abstained from intoxicants, adultery, gambling, stealing and violence.

Aksharbrahman Gunatitanand Swami’s talks were self–realised. They reflected his state of spiritual realisation, saintliness and detachment from maya. Stalwart paramhansas such as Brahmanand Swami, Shukanand Swami and Nityanand Swami often praised his unflagging zeal in delivering sermons, likening them to Bhagwan Swaminarayan’s divine talks.

Gunatitanand Swami was the first guru after Bhagwan Swaminarayan. He was the incarnation of Akshar, the greatest devotee and divine abode of God (Akshardham). As a child he was called Mulji. Mulji was born on 28 September 1784 in the small village of Bhadra in Gujarat, India.

Gunatitanand Swami was the first spiritual successor of Bhagwan Swaminarayan. He lived a life of an ideal sadhu, dedicated to the devotion of God, service of others, and sharing of profound wisdom.

Gunatitanand Swami (1785 - 1867 CE) was a unique and choicest devotee of Bhagwan Swaminarayan. For forty years, through his divine splendor, glory and preaching, he raised many spiritual aspirants to the state of highest spiritual enlightenment. He was known as Aksharbrahma in the Sampraday.
