Yakov Tikhonovich Novichenko (Russian: Яков Тихонович Новиченко; 28 April 1914 – 8 December 1994) was a Soviet military officer. He notably protected Kim Il Sung, the first leader of North Korea, from an assassination attempt in 1946.

Nov 20, 2019 · The Soviet soldier Yakov Novichenko had thrown himself on the grenade to save the life of Kim Il Sung. The soldier survived seriously injured, he lost an arm and part of his eyesight. In 1984, Kim Il Sung visited him in his Siberian homeland.
