Texas is a state that boasts an impressive diversity of turtle species, ranging from land-dwelling to freshwater and sea turtles. These shelled creatures are a fascinating sight to behold, and studying them can yield valuable insights into their behaviors and ecological importance.

Jul 19, 2012 · I’m an avid fisherman and when I go to lake Loramie (auglaize, shelby counties) has an abundance of musk turtles. And mercer county (grand lake watershed) has an abundance of snapping, soft shell, midland painter, Eastern maps, and red ear sliders.

These aquatic turtles can be spotted in many of Ohio’s larger rivers and lakes. They frequently dive deep beneath the surface of the water in search of food, feeding on clams and crayfish. The Northern map turtle is known for being cautious and is only active during daylight hours.

If you live near a pond, lake, river, swamp, or other body of water, chances are you have turtle visitors in the late spring. With habitats shrinking due to land development, new roads and changing climate, turtles have to travel further to locate a suitable place to lay their eggs.

Turtles are no stranger to ponds and lakes all over Texas, and other than grabbing your bait or lure, they seem harmless. While turtles may seem harmless, they in fact do need to be controlled around your pond. If you have an abundance of turtles in your pond, you may notice a drop in fish reproduction. This is no coincidence.
