Apr 11, 2016 · Most heat pumps will run as cold as you want them to. Below zero they sure aren't doing much and timed defrost cause them to switch to cool mode frequently. Rheem had issues with the low pressure switch opening in cold weather so trained their boards that if that happens and it is below zero, keep the heat pump off til it warms up.

Nov 8, 2022 · This does sound like a typical heat pump defrost cycle with no aux heat (electric heat strips) hooked up. You keep saying the heat pump isn't running because the "FAN" on the heat pump isn't running. Did you go outside and listen to hear if the compressor was running, or just look out the window at the fan?

Mar 5, 2022 · It seems to me that since a Heat Pump is cheap to run at warmer outside temps (60's), and more expensive at lower temps (20's), the economics shift with outside temps, electricity costs, and fuel costs. For instance, with fuel spiking right now, it probably makes sense to use the heat pump to a lower outside temp.

Feb 18, 2022 · Thermal image of my Trane XR16/American Standard Silver 16 heat pump. Outdoor temp is right about 42 degrees and their was no ice on the outdoor unit at the time the picture was taken. Definitely seeing some uneven temperatures on the outdoor unit coil with at least a 5 degree swing from the warmer bands to the colder bands. Just wanted to share.

Oct 26, 2018 · When in emergency heat Y is not energized but if you in heat mode and set point brings on second stage heat you have current going through y1,g,w1, and r. Measure current at fuse. Verify you are under 5 amps. 5 amps current going through a short in the stat will produce alot of heat and show a scorch mark.

Dec 14, 2022 · The heat pump would shut off and the oil would heat the house to satisfy the thermostat. As the house cools down the heat pump would start 1st and the cycle would repeat. The problem with this is as the heat pump reaches temperatures where it won’t keep the house warm the register air will be cooler. Then it is just a matter of cost over comfort.

The air handler is an American Standard Model No. 4TEE3F49B1000AA. Thermostat is Honeywell RTH6350/RTH6450 series. We are in Sapphire, NC about 20 miles west of Brevard.
