The fairies are the first magical creatures Kendra and Seth see on the preserve, and are part of the whole story of Fablehaven more than any other magical creature. The Fairy Queen has a shrine on an island in the preserve, and makes Kendra fairykind, and one of her handmaidens.

Fablehaven is home to a wide variety of magical creatures of light, such as fairies, Brownies, nymphs, satyrs, unicorns and centaurs, and dark or inherently evil beings, such as trolls, goblins, werecreatures, ogres, giants, imps, and a few demons. A magical treaty protects all creatures, including humans outside creatures' domains.

The Fairy Queen spares her life and through the experience, makes her fairykind, giving her many of the powers of the fairies. With her help Kendra and the empowered fairy army defeat Muriel and Bahumat.
