Ioulis or Ioulida (Greek: Ιουλίς, Ιουλίδα; Ancient Greek: Ἰουλίς), locally called Chora or Hora (Greek: Χώρα) like the main towns of most Greek islands, and sometimes known by the island name of Kea or Keos (or earlier Zea[2]), is the capital of the island of Kea in the Cyclades.

Jul 13, 2019 · I ended up walking the 5.5 km up to Ioulis today, checking out the archaeological museum (no photos allowed), and making a quick memory journey. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find the famous lion statue that must have been there when Simonides was young.

It was known as Hydroussa in antiquity and christened Tzia by the Franks (a name by which it also goes today) and will reward you with clean beaches, wonderful footpaths and the handsome, stone-clad villas found all over the island. It’s also got a charming main town, Ioulis (or Ioulida).

The only one out of the four ancient towns of Kea built at the inland is Ioulis, or Chora. It was founded in the archaic period and today the ruins of the ancient acropolis’s forts and section of the wall are preserved.

The inhabitants call it "Chora", but its correct name, used in its golden age, is Ioulis. It is a picturesque, typical Cycladic township with 600 inhabitants, a very interesting archeological museum, a prehistorical stone lion and a Venetian castle.
