Apr 6, 2013 · The McCarty pickups are IMHO wound a little dark, likely to fatten up the sound of a doublecut body to make it sound more like a singlecut. That EQ profile in a semi-hollow, which is itself a bit darker than a solidbody, turned out to be Mud City[tm].

Feb 6, 2024 · We will have to wait and see. I find the III designation confusing. When was there a McCarty II pickup? I remember the McCarty II guitar. It had a preamp and 245 pickups if the info on a different website is accurate. The McCarty LT pickups could be considered McCarty II, but that isn’t what they are called.

Mar 27, 2024 · You can find used PRS pickups in that budget. 5708 is my favorite set. 5815LT is my favorite neck. 5909 is my favorite bridge. 5708 neck and 5009 bridge combo absolutely rock.. You don't see 5815LT for sale individually much, if ever, but that's a solid choice for the neck instead for a combo.

Aug 14, 2019 · Thanks for the feedback, but I don’t think that webpage is up-to-date. The official PRS website says the McCarty core model now has McCarty LT pickups, whereas the McCarty 594 has 58/15 LT pickups. My pickups are engraved with 58/15 LT, which matches what PRS stated in their 2020 catalogue.

Dec 10, 2012 · The PRS/Van Damme’s published spec shows a low capacitance of 25 pf per foot, and indeed, it had the most presence and high end, and I was able to have more useful range on the guitar controls. The Mogami’s published capacitance is somewhere in the 40s per foot, and it sounded nice, but lost a bit of high frequency content.

Apr 26, 2011 · Where I thought the neck pickup to be slightly muddy in a 2003 Maple Capped McCarty, the stock McCartys were utterly superb in a 2008 Korina McCarty. I put 5708s in the Korina because a free pickup swap voucher came with the guitar (sent to PRS for the swap and they installed and returned the stock McCarty pickups in the case).
