If you break a segment in half you can see these pieces all stacked together. This structure and elements are common across all citrus fruits so I would expect there to be a name for them.

Two nights ago there was an orange glow in the sky that stayed there all night and into the morning hours. This answer is in the context of an angular 5.1.1 project using angular/cli and angular material 5.1. The mat-... seems to inherit its color from the parent so if you surround with a span or div and apply the color there it should fall through.
