Dec 78 On the PRR New York-Chicago line about mid-way across Ohio is the small town of Crestline. In 1918-1920 a large roundhouse, yard and shops were built to replace smaller older ones. The last steam locomotives built for the PRR - the T1 class were based here.

I last took photos of the roundhouse in 1994 and last visited it about five years later. To me it's amazing it's still standing ninty years after the railroad was abandoned in 1915. For those unfamiliar with the C&L, it was a 3-foot-gauge line built in 1885 from Colusa to Colusa Junction, where it connected with SP's West Valley mainline.

The space between turntable and roundhouse is tied in with the angle of the segments. I use the Fleischmann turntable and roundhouse with 7 1/2 degrees but this has clip-in segments so things can be lined up with the 15 degree Vollmer roundhouse. I have a German HO layout and do not like Marklin in case anyone thinks I made the wrong choice.

Yesterday, during an unheard of snow storm at the San Bernadino Amtrak station this UP train roared past some of the overflow tables at the Roundhouse Gang model railroad swap meet. This show is one of the best shows in SoCal. The $15 tables were available both inside and outside under the platform shed. Edited 1 time(s).
