Some of these firms are as good if not better than ones in Chicago. So if unless you believe JSC/SIG/SLK etc are worse in their operations than chicago shops, there really isn't an argument. That is all.

Oct 19, 2008 · Prop firms tend to interview many people, but they bring on few, and weed out the weak individuals that can't cut it in their first 12-18 months. Because of this, starting salaries at prop firms tend to be below the street. At the best firms, however, starting compensation is on par if not better than the street.

Sep 2, 2018 · tz15 is incorrect. Base is no longer 80-85k at top firms these days. All top firms are offering >100K base now. If you do not believe me, check h1bdata.info for any of these firms - e.g. Citadel, Optiver, JSC, etc. First year bonus has a wide range amongst different firms - you can expect ~50-100% of your salary in bonus if you do well.

Dec 11, 2015 · The prop firms exist only because not all talent has the capital to trade on their own...and the larger firm / group of capital can negotiate lower transaction costs and some infrastructure costs are cheaper when buying in bulk. With the advent of high-speed internet based screen trading thru a firm like IB, this is almost irrelevant now anyway ...

I've also read of some prop guys starting hedge funds, but this is really tough. Sep 6, 2017 · You've also forgotten a bunch of high profile prop trading firms from your list: DRW, KCG (which used to be Getco), DE Shaw, Citadel Securities, Jump Trading, etc. Typically, people who aim for prop shop jobs also aim for quant hedge funds (DE Shaw, Two Sigma, Rentech if you're willing to get a PhD, Citadel, AQR, etc.)
